After snoozing his alarm clock 10 times (and missing a meeting), he rolled out of bed at 10:30. He spent some quality time with the sick computer until we forced him to open his birthday gift.
As always, we labored over what to get for him. We knew we couldn't go wrong with a purchase from Costco, so we bought him a cache cooker. Now to find the time to go camping...
Jacob and Emma have their first day of school tomorrow (Wednesday). Rick seized the opportunity to give the kids a father's blessing. It's always such a neat thing to see the Priesthood in action! Since Rick had to go to work at 1:00, we hurried over to a little Mexican restaurant for a birthday brunch. We ate like it was our last meal. Miraculously we could still take down the fried ice cream dessert they gave him for his special day.
You may not know that Jacob is a big 7th grader playing on the football team this year. He's been in training for a few weeks now, and really enjoys it. Now that the boys are in pads though, things have gotten kind of rough. Check out this kid's bruises!

Jacob can't be in 7th grade!!! What the???? Miss you guys! Happy birthday Rick!
Happy Birthday here too, Rick! I'm leaving messages all over in hopes you'll actually have time to see one. We love you. You make us very proud, almost as if we had a hand in raising you. Do the last 18 years count? (since we met you)
And just sayin' that Jacob looks tough. Tuff. Whatever. Owie, Jake! Hang in there.
Happy B-Day Ricky! Too bad about the lack of sleep thing. . . Jake looks pretty pleased with his war wounds - he also looks way too grown up!
Happy birthday Rick. Did you get my text? haha. Emma is growing up so much and is such a beauty. She has such great coloring. Pretty blonde hair and blue eyes. I love that girl. I can't even believe Jacob is in 7th grade. CRAZY! Love you guys:)
Rick, it was so good to talk to you on your birthday. Dad and I were remembering your 1st birthday and the trip to the Phoenix Zoo. It was so hot but you didn't notice it. All you wanted to do was to chase the goats. Can't believe you are the father of a 7th grade football player and a cute little blond chick.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RICK! you don't look a day over 26. :) and i can't believe how old jacob looks. he could totally take me now i think.
