Super Saturday

What a full day this has been! Rick and I awoke at the crack of 8:30 so that we could prepare for a sans-kid bike ride. The weather cooperated beautifully with sunny skies and mild 70-something temperatures. We set off from our house about 10:00. We caught a very skinny bike lane along the Maumee River. After crossing a busy bridge, we meandered through some “historic” neighborhoods until we found Sidecut Park in Maumee. From there we dipped into Monclova Township a bit before a closed road turned us around. For a complete map of our adventures, you can visit http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/6466857.

Once we got home, we ate our usual PBH sandwiches for lunch and packed up for the YMCA. Instead of going to our closest branch, we crossed the state line to play at the Francis Y in Michigan. This swank facility had some pretty cool amenities like a rock climbing wall and a waterslide.

Emma was the first to try the wall. She went all the way to the top on her first try.

Of course Jake could not let his sister show him up. He climbed quickly at first, but slowed down when Dad made him laugh.

Emma captured this video of Rick on our camera:

After a couple more attempts on the wall, we moved to the gym to play basketball.

This girl has skills.

Show off!

It was a great relief to us all when we found the pool water comfortably warm. We also appreciated not having to apply sunblock.

Rick didn't get his hair wet until 20 minutes in to our swim. What a baby!

We were a little bummed out when the lifeguards made everyone get out of the pool for a mandatory 10-minute rest. I guess they do that every hour. Jeeesh!

In order to jump off the diving board, the kids had to pass a swim test. They were required to swim the length of the pool and back, unassisted. They also had to tread water in the deep end for 30 seconds. After 3 tries, Emma finally passed. Cannonball!

Later, Rick and I abandoned the kids to have a mini date at Blue Pacific Grill. It reminded us of YCs Mongollian BBQ in Phoenix. We loaded a small bowl with raw veggies and meat. Then, they cooked it all up for us in a sauce of our choice. It was pretty delish! For dessert we came home and made No-Bake cookies. We capped off the evening by watching Season 1 of 30 Rock (funny stuff).
